Look Up, People!

Blackbirds in the Cottonwoods

Look Up, People

Oblivious humans,
trudging from car to store
through the super-size parking lot,
with their lists of things they hope
will make their lives
more meaningful,
thinking of anything but
this moment,
while over their heads
a ribbon of a thousand joyful starlings
perform a precision ballet
diving, spinning, swirling
against a fiery Autumn sunset.

  1. ❤❤❤❤ I love to sit in the yard with my eyes closed and listen to the bird's songs. I love this.

  2. Thank you.. I do that too. I wrote this in a parking lot, I was just struck by the contrast between the people and all the things they were buying and the stressed looks on their faces, and those joyful birds without a care... if only more people realized that joy is all around is, and inside us, not something we can get from material things.
